The notion of "the one" is misleading.
I don't think that for each person, there is just one other who serves as a true complement. Finding "the one" doesn't mean you are looking for a particular person, but that you are looking for a person. Under the ideal circumstances, with the right mindset, and with effort, you really can make anyone "the one". It's just so dumb to me that people (me included) get so invested in this idea of fate handing them the perfect individual and that there is no point in trying to open the mind to the possibility that maybe there are several different "ones" that work. Obviously not condoning adultery here, but rather that you don't need to settle on one type of person or look for certain characteristics in a mate.
Not "the one", but "a one".
